High school football season is officially BACK on the Gulf Coast with our next stop of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week taking us LeFlore High School for their huge region game against UMS Wright!
The Rattlers host the Bulldogs in the first week of region play for 5A Region 1 coming off a tight week one loss by a score of 31-20 against Robertsdale. LeFlore took a step up last year, winning two games after winning just one total over the previous three years combined, but they enter a new era this season.
Head coach Michael Perry takes over after Renardo Jackson departed for Vigor, and even though they were not able to come out with a win in week one, a competitive game against a team two classifications higher than them is a solid start.
As for UMS, they are in a new era of their own after the retirement of legendary head coach Terry Curtis following 26 years leading the program. Sam Williams takes over and nearly won the Battle of Old Shell in his first game last week against a talented St. Paul’s team, falling 29-28 in ovetime.
With the Bulldogs looking to re-establish their dominance within a region even with a new man at the helm, they will be looking to make a statement on Friday night that they are back and ready to come after their rivals once again.
It should be a phenomenal night of football on Friday at LeFlore, and it’s only the early portion of what will be a huge schedule for our WNSP crew this season!
Be sure to tune into the broadcast from Michael Brauner and Brian Genard on 105.5 WNSP or on the Sound of Mobile app!
