2023 SEC/Big 12 Challenge Matchups Announced

While college basketball season may seem like it’s years away now, two of the sport’s premiere conferences have announced a schedule of 10 matchups for the 10th annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Over the last six years, the SEC has lost the challenge just once, winning six out of ten of the matchups this past season.

The 2023 challenge will take place with all ten matchups falling on January 28th, 2023. The matchups are as follows:

Alabama at Oklahoma

Arkansas at Baylor

Auburn at West Virginia

Florida at Kansas State

Kansas at Kentucky

Texas Tech at LSU

Ole Miss at Oklahoma State

TCU at Mississippi State

Iowa State at Missouri

Texas at Tennessee

Certainly, the most eye popping matchup here has to be defending national champions Kansas Jayhawks heading to Lexington to take on Kentucky fresh off one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history after losing to cinderella 15 seed St. Peter’s in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama will take on Okalahoma in Norman, where they lost 66-61 in 2021. Alabama defeated Okalahoma in 2018 in Tuscaloosa 80-73.

Auburn will head to Morgantown for the first time since 1984 to take on West Virginia, when they won 59-58. Auburn is 2-2 all time against the Mountaineers and this will be their first matchup since 2007.

Another fascinating matchup is Arkansas heading to Waco to take on Baylor. Fresh off an elite eight appearance, Eric Musselman’s squad is being looked at very favorably in the preseason with tons of returning talent. Baylor will be strong this season as well after being knocked out by North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

With football being all the focus, today’s news gives basketball fans something to look forward to with the season still being a long way out.
