Week 1 – Jakorian Bennett, McGill-Toolen
McGill-Toolen senior Jakorian Bennett made the most of his first varsity football start. So much so that he has been named the Synovus Coastal Bank and Trust Player of Week presented each week by WNSP.
Bennett intercepted three passes in leading the Yellow Jackets to a 27-20 road win against Spanish Fort. Bennett returned one of those picks for a 55-yard yard touchdown. He took back another for a touchdown but the return was called back by penalty.
Bennett and McGill-Toolen will be on the road against this Friday night, visiting 7A Region 1 rival Davidson at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Week 2 – Matthew Quinn, Spanish Fort
The junior kicked the game-winning 18-yard field goal on the last play of the game to lead Spanish Fort an 8-7 win over rival Daphne. Earlier, Quinn booted a career-best 50-yard field goal.
Week 3 – Ja’Quan Myles, Daphne
Myles scored on two kickoff returns, which proved to be the difference as Daphne beat Saraland 26-20. Myles’ returns covered 95 and 82 yards.
Week 4 – Jack West, Saraland
Saraland senior Jack West was very impressive in his fourth game of the season. So much so that he has been named the Synovus Coastal Bank and Trust Player of Week presented each week by WNSP.
Stanford commit Jack West went 11-of-14 for 193 yards and four touchdowns as Saraland upset No. 2 Blount 42-14.
Week 5 – Eric Poellnitz, Mobile Christian
Poellnitz caught three touchdown passes in the No. 1 Leopards’ win over No. 8 T.R. Miller. One of those, an 86-yard reception, put the game away, and Mobile Christian eventually won 35-21.
Week 6 – Todd Hoover, Gulf Shores
Senior running back Todd Hoover took the ball 30 times and ran for 214 yards. His 2 touchdowns led Gulf Shores to a 31-30 win over Faith Academy.
Week 7 – Jermaine Brown, St. Luke’s
Brown absolutely dominated state-ranked J.U. Blacksher with 7 total touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 56-21 win Friday night. He rushed 19 times for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns; through the air, he went 11-for-19 passing for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Week 8 – Javis Atchison, Baldwin County
The 6-foot-4 junior caught 6 passes for 140 yards in a 15-14 win over Saraland. His touchdown in the last minute closed the gap to 14-13 and set up the winning 2-point conversion.
Week 9 – Symon Smith, UMS-Wright
Sophomore back Symon Smith ran 34 times for 232 yards in a matchup of top-10 teams. His 4 touchdowns led the Bulldogs to victory over Thomasville 28-20.
Week 10 – Roger McCreary, Williamson
The South Alabama commit ran for two touchdowns and threw for another pair in a 42-0 win over Wilcox Central Thursday night. The senior quarterback’s performance helped secure a 5A playoff spot for the Lions.
Week 11 – Trevor Andrews, Theodore
The Theodore senior quarterback led the Bobcats into the Class 7A playoffs with a 28-0 win over Foley. In Friday’s game, Andrews went 12-for-18 passing to 5 different receivers for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Playoffs Week 1 – Jay Williams, Saraland
Of his nine receptions, two went for touchdowns in Saraland’s 35-7 thumping of Benjamin Russell. The
Playoffs Week 2 – Jayland Whitsett, Vigor
The Wolves’ running back rushed 17 times for 187 yards, an even 11 yards per carry, and a touchdown. Whitsett led his team to a 19-13 win over Eufaula.
