ACC may want to pump the brakes on being the greatest conference

It was only opening weekend, but if the Atlantic Coast Conference wants to be known as the standard bearer for college football they had better tighten up.

Both Jimbo Fisher and Dabo Swinney said at ACC Media Days that there was no question which conference was the best in college football.

This just in: The ACC is 0-2 against the SEC so far this season.

In a matchup of the top-ranked team from each conference, Alabama handled Florida State in a game that was pretty demoralizing for the Seminoles.

In the other ACC-SEC matchup, North Carolina State (a trendy pick to make the playoff this season) lost to middle-of-the-pack SEC East team South Carolina.

The ACC also had a bad loss by North Carolina to California and an overtime squeaker by Pittsburgh over Youngstown State.

The ACC did get a thrilling win by Virginia Tech over West Virginia Sunday night and will have a chance to exact a little revenge on the SEC tonight when Georgia Tech faces Tennessee.

But to this point in the season, the self-proclaimed best conference in college football needs to Tighten Up.
