Auburn about to prove what kind of team it has

At the halfway point of the regular season, Auburn is 5-1 headed into a key game tomorrow at LSU.
But before you pass any judgment about the 2017 Tigers I would say just be patient.
Because, through six games, what other record could the Tigers possibly have had other than 5-1?
The one loss was on the road against national champion Clemson. Auburn was breaking in a new quarterback who went almost two full calendar years between actual games. They were also playing without Kerryon Johnson, who is proving to be one of the best backs in the country as he scores a touchdown every seven times he runs the ball this season. The running back who got all the carries was a hobbled Kam Pettway.
On the other hand, the five wins have been over less than impressive competition. Georgia Southern and Mercer are not even good compared to other non-Power 5 teams. Missouri, Mississippi State and Ole Miss aren’t going to be confused for championship contenders.
Auburn’s first six opponents have a record of 15-16. The next six have a record of 25-6.
So, whatever you think of Auburn at this point — positive or negative — is probably a no better guess than what you thought before the season started. But we’re about to find out.
