Two local teams in state championship on WNSP

localfinalsMOBILE, AL (WNSP) — The Super 7 is here.

Two local high school football teams are in the AHSAA finals—McGill-Toolen and Mobile Christian—and WNSP will be broadcasting both games. The Yellow Jackets take on Hoover at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, and Mobile Christian plays Piedmont at 11:30 a.m. the next day.

McGill’s undefeated regular season carried over into the finals, where its win streak grew to 22. The Yellow Jackets decimated Jeff Davis 46-14, slipped by Enterprise 27-23, and handed Central-Phenix City a 35-21 loss.

If they win, it would be the program’s first set of back-to-back state titles, and the first in 7A. Mobile Christian is also in contention for its first set as well.

The Leopards had to forfeit their first game against Lighthouse Christian in week one, but since then they have rattled off 13 wins. Those wins include a 21-7 win over Straughn, a 36-14 win over Montevallo, a 44-12 win at Oakman, and last week’s 21-14 victory over Gordo.

This is hardly the first time the finals have featured more than one Mobile/Baldwin team—last year, McGill, Mobile Christian, Spanish Fort, St. Paul’s and Bayside Academy all made appearances in their respective class finals. Only the Admirals failed to claim the title.

Both games will be broadcast on WNSP 105.5, WNSP.com and the WNSP app.
