Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark and Lee will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
You can catch all of it right here on WNSP.com or live during The Opening Kickoff.
In this week’s edition, we caught up with longtime area coach Rick Cauley after the announcement came over the weekend that he would be taking over the football program at St. Luke’s following him serving on the staff for the Wildcats for the last calendar season.
“I never really got out of coaching,” Cauley said telling how he has had multiple stops since retiring from Davidson. “I like it at St. Luke’s, I like the school and like the kids so thought I would take a shot at it…we are hoping to get the numbers up this spring, but either way we are gonna strap it up and give it a great shot.”
Cauley was the offensive coordinator under Joe Gilmore in 2025 and has served as the head coach at Murphy, Davidson and B.C. Rain over a career in coaching that has spanned nearly three decades.
Now, he faces a huge challenge to try to get the St. Luke’s program back to competing for area titles and potential playoff runs.
