Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner: McGill-Toolen Baseball’s Tim Becker

Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark and Lee will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.

You can catch all of it right here on WNSP.com or live during The Opening Kickoff.

This week, we caught up with McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets baseball coach Tim Becker, who has his team off to a tremendous start ahead of region play getting kicked off.

“Our team right now has played very well, we have three big games this week [before region play starts next week],” Becker said. “We always know the team that comes out of this area has a chance to win a state title. We’re an older team with a lot of juniors and seniors as well as a lot of sophomores who are contributing.”

The Yellow Jackets are 12-4 and fresh off a resounding victory over St. Luke’s at the end of last week with three more this week against Cottage Hill, Davidson and Foley. Next Tuesday, they will start region play against Baldwin County and face them on Wednesday as well before a week off and then a game against Murphy before a two-game set against Spanish Fort.

Becker clearly thinks this team has a chance to do some special things this year, and it seems they are certainly worth paying attention to for high school baseball fans in the area.
