Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark, Lee and Michael will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
In this week’s edition, we got the chance to catch up with Vigor Wolves head coach Renardo Jackson coming off his team’s huge non-region road trip victory in Alexander City against a very talented Benjamin Russell team. The Wolves have bounced back nicely from a surprising loss a couple weeks back to Orange Beach with a dominating victory over Citronelle before the 20-10 victory over Benjamin Russell.
When asked what his team has done to get back on the winning track, Jackson kept things simple.
“We’re on the winning track because we won the last one we played,” Jackson said. “The kids are starting to play with some confidence in what we do on each side of the ball…last Friday was a good opportunity to see where we were at in our maturation process at this point in the season…it was a really great atmosphere.”
Vigor will have two more region games against LeFlore and B.C. Rain the next two weeks before the huge showdown against Williamson which likely will decide the region. After the loss to the Makos, there is no room for error for Vigor, needing to win every region showdown in order to have a real shot to win it.
That starts this week against the Rattlers, and Coach Jackson is doing everything it takes to keep his team focused on the goal at hand rather than getting caught looking ahead.
