Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark, Lee and Michael will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
In this week’s edition, we were joined by Bayshore Christian Eagles head coach Jacy Todd. Todd replace Hall of Fame coach Phil Lazenby two years ago who started the program over from scratch and stepped down after his first year.
The Eagles are off to a 1-3 start, a significant step after finishing last season 1-7 in the first year under Todd. He knows that building a program is difficult, and numbers are not where they need to be just yet to compete. But with an up and coming middle school program, brighter days are ahead for the program.
“We’re certainly learning in our new region, and in my evaluation I think we’re doing great,” Todd said. “We’re well ahead of where we were this time last year offensively in terms of numbers….our middle school program is way up in numbers, we have been competitive….when you look at teams we play similar to our size and numbers, we are extremely competitive.”
It seems like Todd is in it for the long haul as he tries to build a success story with the program. Bayshore will face off this week against St. Luke’s as they try to earn the second victory of the season.
