Auburn topped South Alabama 78-67 on Tuesday night in Neville Arena. It brought an end to South Alabama’s season and advanced Auburn to the NIT’s Round of 16.
Kevin Overton poured in 7 3-point makes in the second half of the game tallying 21 points on the night.
The Jags were led in scoring by Sun Belt Player of The Year, Chaze Harris who scored 29 of South Alabama’s 67.
Both teams were without notable forwards in the matchup. With Keshawn Murphy being AWOL from the Tigers. Keshawn Murphy is out of eligibility so it is unclear as to why Murphy did not participate and will not be a part of the Tigers for their NIT run. On the other side, South Alabama was without their second leading scorer Adam Olsen. Olsen was in street clothes with a cited “lower leg” injury. With eligibility remaining, there is speculation that Olsen will enter the NCAA transfer portal.
South Alabama jumped out to a halftime lead of 36-30.
The Jags defense fell apart in the second half and USA was out scored 48 to 31 in the second half of the game.
South Alabama finishes the season 21-12. That makes back to back seasons of 21 wins for Richie Riley and the Jaguars.
Auburn improves to 18-16 on the year and will face Seattle in the second round of the NIT.
