South Alabama Women’s Basketball Set To Face Purdue Fort Wayne in WNIT Second Round

The South Alabama Jaguars look to keep their hot streak and season alive as they go up against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons Tuesday night.

The Jaguars have won eight of their last nine, and are coming off an impressive road win against Alcorn State in the first round of the Women’s NIT. This comes after a stretch in the middle of the regular season where they lost 10 in a row.

In the Alcorn State matchup, Cordasia Harris led the way for the Jags with 20 points and nine rebounds off the bench while shooting 60% from the field. Also, Diawna Carter-Hartley had a near triple-double as she finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

The win over the Braves was also an impressive showcase by Daniela Gonzalez and Tamara Ortiz. Both played all 40 minutes in that Alcorn State game. The two combined for 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Purdue Fort Wayne has not played since March 9, when they lost to Green Bay 73-48 in the semifinals of the Horizon League conference tournament.

The Mastodons are led by senior forward Alana Nelson who leads the team in scoring with 15.7 points per game and rebounding with 5.2 per game.

This is just the fifth time that South Alabama has made the WNIT, and it is their first appearance since 2019.

The Second Round matchup between the Jaguars and the Mastodons is set to tip off March 24th at 6pm central and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
