2025 Saraland 4-star QB KJ Lacey announced his commitment to Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns over the weekend. Lacey had offers from just about everywhere, but included in the “top nine” he put out last week were Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss.
They asked me, “Why Texas?” I say, “Why NOT Texas?” 1000% Committed @Hayesfawcett3 🤘🏽🟠⚪️#HookEm @TXHRecruiting @QBCountry @GCoastAthletics @McGaster5 @CoachSark @milwee4 @tjkelly17 @HankSouth247 @SeanW_Rivals @ChadSimmons_ @coachTigg @taylor_searels @Brett_Boutwell pic.twitter.com/XPF4hAQle6

By the time Lacey arrives on campus in Austin, the Longhorns will be full-fledged members of the SEC, something that you have to assume factored into his decision. Lacey’s teammate and top target, Ryan Williams, is committed to Alabama.
The fact that Lacey still has two more years at Saraland is a scary sight for area schools, with the Saraland Spartans fresh off their first ever 6A state championship and looking to do it again this season. They are one of the most talented and exciting teams across the entire state and have a chance to be even better in 2023 than they were in 2022.
Lacey is the latest elite quarterback recruit to sign on with Steve Sarkisian at Texas, with Quinn Ewers expected to start for the Longhorns this season and Arch Manning waiting in the wings behind him. Texas is setting itself up very well to compete in an ever-evolving pass-heavy SEC.
Saraland will open the season against Tennessee powerhouse Lipscomb Academy at home at Spartan Stadium on August 25th.
