Perry Thompson Shares Insight into Decision to Flip

The Gulf Coast found itself at the center of the college football news cycle over the weekend, with Foley 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson flipping his commitment from Alabama to Auburn. Thompson, who had been committed to the Crimson Tide for a year, has visited The Plains several times over the last few months and a flip almost felt inevitable.

Nonetheless, it illustrated a bigger narrative going on in the SEC right now, as Thompson was the second 5-star Hugh Freeze landed in the last week, flipping linebacker Demarcus Riddick from Georgia over Alabama as well. From a recruiting perspective, Auburn is back and Hugh Freeze is not slowing down.

Thompson spoke about his decision while representing Foley yesterday at Baldwin County Media Days:

“Really just Hugh Freeze and what he can do with receivers. I know he’s a receiver specialist and can push me to the top. The legacy I can make at Auburn too. I know Alabama has produced great receivers but I want to be able to make my own legacy at Auburn,” Thompson stated.

Auburn is also in play for 5-star safety KJ Bolden, who will announce his decision this weekend. The Buford star is ranked as the #1 safety in the class of 2024 and would be an absolutely massive get for Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers.
