On second thought, Auburn’s offense stalls again

It would be different if Auburn’s offense was simply terrible. In that case, there’d be no reason to waste a perfectly good Tighten Up on the Tigers. But that’s not the case.

Kerryon Johnson is one of the best backs in the country and is averaging 15 points per game.
Will Hastings and Ryan Davis have led a group of receivers who have made explosive plays.
Jarrett Stidham is one of the most accurate passers in the country.
The offensive line is full of seniors and is led by an All-America candidate.

But all those accolades are based on first-half performances. Because in the second half, Auburn’s offense proved again Saturday it needs to Tighten Up.

If you’ll remember the game against Clemson, Auburn raced to 89 yards in the first quarter. The Tigers had only 28 yards the rest of the way.
The same was true Saturday, when Auburn recorded 290 yards in the first half but added only 64 in the second half.
That’s some serious stalling for a team that has enough offensive weapons for that not to be the case.
