High school football has been in full swing on the Gulf Coast, and the regular season flew by with playoffs coming this past week and with it, exciting round one action across both the area and the entire state.
Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week for the first round, the distinct honor went to the Mobile Christian Leopards and head coach Charles Lawson, who has his team in the playoffs for the 10th straight year and second year in 4A Region 1. As Lawson took over the program last year, they faced the massive challenge of moving up classifications, but it has not kept them out of the postseason.
After falling last year though in the first round in a close heartbreaker against Tallassee, the Leopards now have their first playoff win in 4A with a 15-13 victory over Dale County which they had to go on the road to get.
Things do not get any easier from here though and the turnaround is quick with Mobile Christian hitting the road again for round two. This week it will be Bullock County, who finished third in 4A Region 3 with a record on the regular season of 7-3 and a round one win over Oak Grove.
Congratulations to the Mobile Christian Leopards and head coach Charles Lawson on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week and best of luck moving forward the rest of the postseason!
