High school football is very much in full swing on the Gulf Coast!
Every week on the Joe Bullard Chevrolet Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week on our fifth Friday night of the season, the crew gave the honor to the Daphne Trojans and head coach Kenny King after what was an absolutely massive victory over Baker on the road. Trailing 20-13 in the second half, Daphne scored 21 unanswered points to grab a 34-20 victory.
For the Trojans, they move to 4-1 with their only defeat against undefeated Mary G. Montgomery. With a win over Baker — the team who has challenged the Vikings most over the last two years — Daphne has established themselves firmly along with Fairhope as teams to beat behind the juggernaut that MGM has been.
Between Daphne, Baker, Fairhope as well as MGM, it’s shaping up to be an incredible region race in 7A Region 1 and one of the most competitive we have seen in a very long time. Next up for Daphne is a non-region matchup against Spanish Fort before they return to region play against Daphne.
