High school football is officially back on the Gulf Coast!
Every week on the Pigskin Pete Scoreboard show, our Friday night crew will be naming the Joe Bullard Team/Coach of the Week, given to the team and coach that had the best performance of the week in the face of adversity in our coverage area across the Gulf Coast.
This week on the third Friday night of the season, the honor went to Cottage Hill Christian and head coach Carvel Jones after another huge win which got region play started off on the right foot and brought the Warriors to 3-0. Cottage Hill defeated Hillcrest-Evergreen 17-13, using a late TD and red zone defensive stand to came back from a 13-0 halftime deficit.
The Warriors are off this week after the tremendous start to the year, but after that it gets tough in 3A Region 1. In a game that will be broadcast on WNSP, they will take on Excel at home and still have the likes of Bayside Academy, TR Miller, and Flomaton on the schedule.
Jones has already equaled his highest win total at Cottage Hill during his first three years after going 2-8 and 3-7 the previous two seasons. The Warriors have playoffs on their mind, but they must take things one game at a time after winning just one region game the last two years.
Now already matching that total, the sky could be the limit for this team’s potential.
Congratulations to the Cottage Hill Warriors and head coach Carvel Jones on being named this week’s Joe Bullard Chevrolet Team/Coach of the Week and best of luck the rest of the way in their 2025 season!
