Inside the Dome: Bye Week Coming at Right Time for Saints

Every Thursday right here you can read Inside the Dome, where we’ll get into a different topic on the Saints/the NFL as a whole, break down the Black and Gold, and talk about where things stand in the shield. In this week’s edition, the Saints lost in Minnesota to drop back to .500 and suffered injuries to several key players:

With the New Orleans Saints sitting exactly at 5-5 and a bye week opportunity to reset upon them, it comes at an good time. Both Derek Carr and Michael Thomas on offense suffered injuries, while Marshon Lattimore was hurt on defense as well.

Carr’s injury, which placed him in concussion protocol but did not affect the existing shoulder injury, is not expected to be significant. For Thomas and Lattimore, however, knee and ankle injuries (respectively) are seen as more significant, multiple-week injuries.

Next time the Saints take the field, it will be a massive game, taking on the Falcons in Atlanta. The Falcons currently sit one game behind the Saints at 4-6 and are also on a bye this week. Tampa Bay, who has already had their bye and sits in 2nd place at 4-5, takes on San Francisco on the road this week in what would be a huge upset if they can pull it out.

While it has lived up to the billing as arguably the worst division in football, the NFC South race is shaping up to come down to the wire.
