The season has gone by so fast and it’s already time for the third round of the playoffs on the Gulf Coast! This week marks another edition of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week on Friday night and taking us out to Vigor for the Wolves’ quarter final matchup against the UMS Wright Bulldogs!
Vigor has been the best team in the region and really all of 5A all season long with an undefeated season in the region spoiled only by a non-region close loss against 7A Baker in the final game of the regular season. UMS meanwhile looked like their long playoff streak was gonna come to an end for a large part of the regular season, but Terry Curtis’ group found a way to get it done and as they so often have, are making a deep run.
Vigor has not yet been tested in the playoffs with two blowout victories in which they have not given up a single point, defeating Sipsey Valley in the first round 46-0 and Eufaula in the second round by a score of 41-0. UMS earned a 21-7 first round victory over Andalusia and a 7-6 nail-biter over Andalusia in the second round.
The two sides faced off in the regular season and the Bulldogs put up a great fight as the only team in the region to score double digits against the shutdown Vigor defense. The Wolves claimed a 30-14 victory and will be hungry to do it again, but perhaps the Bulldogs have one final trick up their sleeves.
The stakes couldn’t be higher between the two area schools and it should be a tremendous game on Friday night.
