Greer’s Markets Game of the Week Preview: Spanish Fort @ McGill-Toolen

High school football season is nearing the end of the regular season on the Gulf Coast with our next stop of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week taking us McGill-Toolen for their huge region game against Spanish Fort!

Both teams are 4-4 including records of 3-3 within 6A Region 1, and this is going to be an absolutely massive showdown which could wind up impacting who makes the playoffs. With Saraland and Theodore both undefeated and battling for the region title this week, Gulf Shores, McGill, Spanish Fort, and St. Paul’s all sit at 3-3 and only two of the four can make the playoffs.

The Yellow Jackets have a looming game next week against Baldwin County while the Toros have the monumental task of St. Paul’s after McGill, so this game could very easily be the final difference maker as both schools try to make the playoffs.

For the Yellow Jackets, it’s been a special year and they are coming off a dominating victory against St. Paul’s last week 41-17. McGill has lost games this year in very close fashion to Daphne and Gulf Shores as well as a bit more lopsided against those outstanding Saraland and Theodore teams. They are entering this one off three consecutive victories.

Spanish Fort on the other hand has not had quite the year they had hoped, but they have a chance to put that all behind them with strong performances over the final two weeks. Their losses have come to Theodore, Saraland, Gulf Shores, and Daphne, and the Toros enter this one coming off a bye following the Gulf Shores defeat.

It should be a tremendous night of high school football in Mobile, and it’s one of the final regular season games of the year for our Friday night crew.
