It’s hard to believe, but we’re already in the second week of playoff football on the Gulf Coast and this week marks another edition of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week on Friday night and taking us out to St. Paul’s as they will face off in their huge second round game hosting Pike Road.
After losing in the final week of the season to Spanish Fort and being forced to hit the road in the first round when they dropped to the No. 3 seed in 6A Region 1, St. Paul’s responded with a 26-0 shutout of Helena and a definitive statement that they are here to make a deep run.
The Pike Road Patriots present a massive test for the Saints as the 6A Region 2 champions, their second in a row. The Patriots are coming off a dominating 37-7 victory over Bessemer City in their first round game and went 7-3 in the regular season with a 6-0 region record and the only losses coming up against 7A schools.
The Saints 6-2 region record in the toughest region in the state was not good enough to earn a top-two seed, but surely the team is welcoming the second round home game as they look to try to advance to the quarter finals and face what would be the winner of Spanish Fort against Hueytown.
