It’s hard to believe, but we’re already in the first week playoff football on the Gulf Coast and this week marks another edition of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week on Thursday night and taking us out to St. Michael as they will face off in their huge first round game hosting Handley.
The Cardinals had an unbelievable regular season, finishing 9-1 and 5-1 in Class 4A Region 1. Had it not been for Jackson being one of the best in the state and their only loss so far, St. Michael would have locked up the No. 1 seed and an undefeated regular season. St. Michael, led by quarterback Gunner Rivers – son of head coach and NFL legend Phillip Rivers – has put up a ridiculous amount of points this season with 367.
Fresh off a win against Orange Beach to finish the regular season, the Cardinals will be ready to get after it against a Handley team that went 7-3 this season and 5-2 in 4A Region 3, finishing in third place to the two teams they lost to in Tallassee and St. James.
Due to weather concerns, the game has been moved to Thursday night.
You’ll be able to hear Michael Brauner and Brian Genard Thursday night on the call at 7:00 p.m. on 105.5 WNSP or on the Sound of Mobile app!
