We are ripping through high school football season on the Gulf Coast this season and this week marks another edition of the Greer’s Markets Game of the Week taking us out to the Eastern Shore to Spanish Fort for their massive region matchup against Gulf Shores.
The Toros are off to a 6-1 start with their only loss to Saraland and are going to contend for a top-two seed in the playoffs if they can keep up this strong level of play. The Dolphins on the other hand have had an up and down year as they moved up classifications this year to 6A. Gulf Shores started off 0-3 but with only one region loss coming to Saraland and since then are 2-1 with a competitive loss to St. Paul’s last week.
Overall, the Dolphins are 2-2 in 6A while Spanish Fort is 4-1, meaning Gulf Shores must win in order to cause absolute chaos within the region. The Toros have won their last three games in a row after the drubbing to Saraland against Murphy, Daphne, and Blount.
The two schools have actually played a total of 16 times, but not since 2021. History is on Spanish Fort’s side with a 15-1 record all-time and no losses since their first ever meeting since 2006.
You’ll be able to hear Michael Brauner and Brian Genard Friday night on the call at 7:00 p.m. on 105.5 WNSP or on the Sound of Mobile app!
