The Auburn Tigers raced out to a 28-0 lead en route to a 42-16 win over the Mercer Bears at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday Night.  The win snapped the Tigers five-game losing streak, dating back to November 6th, 2021 and a 20-3 loss to Texas A&M.

TJ Finley did get the starting nod at quarterback for the Tigers, but backup Robbie Ashford was mixed into the lineup as well.  Finley was 9-14 with 114 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw a pair of interceptions.  Ashford was 4-7 for 100 yards in the air while rushing the ball six times for 68 yards.

Junior running back Tank Bigsby led the Tigers ground attack with 147 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns.  Sophomore running back Jarquez Hunter only carried the ball eight times for 34 yds, but scored three touchdowns.

Wide Receiver Ja’Varrius Johnson had a huge night with 4 catches for 117 yards.  Shedrick Jackson also had four receptions while Tight End John Samuel Shanker caught two balls, one being a touchdown.

The two teams had to sit thru an 87-minute lightning delay.  Following the delay, Bigsby scored on the first play, a 39 yard touchdown run.

Auburn beings the season 1-0 and hosts San Jose State next Saturday Night, kickoff 6:30P CT.
