Bryant Bank Player of the Week: Kendrick Able, Theodore

High school football season is officially BACK on the Gulf Coast, and the fifth week of the year brought some very exciting action to the area as teams got back on the field with a great number of them continuing play in their respective regions.

Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Joe Bullard Chevrolet Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.

This week, the honor went to Theodore Bobcats junior running back Kendrick Able for his huge performance against St. Paul’s in their thrilling 6A Region 1 victory. Able carried the ball 22 times for 207 yards and three touchdowns as the Bobcats took their first lead of the night with just 30 seconds left to win 42-41 over a previously undefeated St. Paul’s.

“The thing about Kendrick is that he’s just as good in the fourth quarter as he is in the first quarter,” Theodore head coach Steve Mask said. “He’s got good speed, good vision, great power…I think the best way to describe him is that if you remember Jerome Bettis with the Steelers, he’s that type of back. He’s got a bright future.”

The Bobcats are off to a huge start and are 4-0 in region play with Fairhope on their horizons this week. As Theodore demonstrates themselves as a force to be reckoned with, their looming matchup at Saraland late in the year could wind up deciding one of the best regions in the state.

Congratulations to Able and the entire Theodore team team on taking home this week’s version of the prestigious award!
