Bryant Bank Player of the Week: Jason Todd, Mobile Christian

High school football season is officially BACK on the Gulf Coast, and the second week of the year brought some very exciting action to the area as teams got back on the field following their first game of the year.

Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night postgame show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.

This week, the postgame crew named Mobile Christian Leopards senior running back Jason Todd as the recipient of the distinct honor due to his ridiculous stat line in their 45-35 victory over Presbyterian Christian.

Todd carried the ball 33 times on Friday night and ran for 347 yards and three touchdowns along with a 95-yard kickoff return on top of a 45-yard touchdown reception.giving him five scores on the night, giving him over 500 all purpose yards.

“He’s built that way,” head coach Charles Lawson said of his tailback’s performance. “He wouldn’t want it any other way, his offensive line had a great performance, it was just the perfect storm for him.”

Mobile Christian is now 2-0 and starting region play this week as they prepare to hit the road against Satsuma in what will be a very difficult 4A Region 1.

With teams like Jackson and St. Michael sitting at the top of the region, it will take performances like this from Todd in order to keep his team competing for a playoff spot.

Lawson is in his second year which has coincided with the second year since moving up classifications for the Leopards, and if Todd can keep toting the rock like this, this team is going to win a whole lot of games this season.
