Bryant Bank Player of the Week: Demetris Johnson, Vigor

Week eight has come and gone on the Gulf Coast, and with it, high school football season is officially in full swing with the best time of year that we all wait for finally now here!

Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Green and Phillips Pigskin Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.

This week, the honor goes to Vigor Wolves running back Demetris Johnson for his huge showing in their massive victory over one of the best defenses in the state in the Williamson Lions. On 31 carries, Johnson had 190 yards on the ground as well as both touchdowns in the 12-0 victory

It was the defense that was the story of the night, holding Williamson to just 41 total yards and two first downs on the entire night in a performance from that side of the ball for the Wolves which will go down in the history books.

“It motivated the guys for sure and gave them an opportunity to feel like we’re a good defense as well, and we were able to do that so I was proud of them,” head coach Renardo Jackson said on WNSP on the talk being all about the Lions defense before the game.

Vigor improved to 7-1 on the year with just one game left on the schedule in region play against Satsuma before a nice test against Fairhope. The Wolves did lose to Orange Beach earlier this season, which means they are tied at the top of the standings and have some questions to answer about who will win the region, but regardless, Vigor is turning the page and getting ready for the rest of its schedule before a potentially deep playoff run.

Congratulations to Johnson and the entire Vigor Wolves team on the honor and a huge win, and best of luck the rest of the season!
