High school football season is ripping by on the Gulf Coast, and the final week of the regular season brought some very exciting action to the area as teams got back on the field with a great number of them continuing play in their respective regions.
Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Joe Bullard Chevrolet Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.
This week, the honor goes to St. Paul’s Saints senior linebacker Anthony “Tank” Jones for his huge performance in what was his final high school game during a victory over Spanish Fort.
The Oregon commit had two rushing touchdowns and threw the game winning jump pass touchdown with nine seconds left in the dramatic 28-24 victory. With 20 touchdowns on the season while obviously also playing full time defense, Jones leaves his mark on St. Paul’s firmly as the Saints career leader in tackles and sacks.
Though St. Paul’s is not going to be in the playoffs, Jones gave it absolutely everything he had, and it’s safe to say people across the Gulf Coast will be cheering the five-star on at the next level.
Congratulations to Jones and the entire Saints team on taking home this week’s version of the prestigious award, not to mention what was a hard fought season!
