Alabama got off to a 2-0 start in SEC play with a dominating win over Ole Miss last night at Coleman Coliseum. The team seems to be starting to gel together and everyone is finding their role on a squad that is just beginning to hit its stride. But the story of the night yesterday, as it often has been this year, is the ultra-talented freshman Brandon Miller.
Miller seems to be getting better every game and is blossoming into one of the best players in college basketball. He is putting on an incredible show every night with highlight play after highlight play and is easily the best player on the team.
It remains to be seen just how good Miller and this team can be this year. But Nate Oats has spoken very openly about the fact that Miller will only be around for this season and that Alabama fans should enjoy him while he’s here. Miller is without a doubt playing himself into high end of the lottery discussion for June’s NBA Draft.
The next three games are absolutely huge for Miller and Alabama. They will take on Kentucky at home this Saturday before a road matchup at Arkansas next Wednesday. They return home the following weekend for a Saturday afternoon matchup against the LSU Tigers. The SEC is a gauntlet this season, and this will be one of their most difficult three game stretches of the year. Alabama must take advantage of the opportunity in front of them.
We know Brandon Miller is outstanding. We know this team is very good. But this stretch of games will go a long way towards determining just how good this team can be, and how far Miller can carry them.
