The NBA Draft took place over the last two days and though no one from the in-state powers were selected in the first round, the second round saw one of the most prominent players the state of Alabama has seen in a long time come off the board.

With the 35th selection in the draft, the Philadelphia 76ers selected now former Auburn big man Johni Broome coming off the best season of his storied college career.

Head coach Bruce Pearl reacted to the news on his X account:

Broome was the SEC’s player of the year this season and made just about every first team you can think of due to his incredible performance.

He averaged 18.6 points per game and 10.8 rebounds with nearly three assists as well, doing it all for the SEC regular season champs and leading Auburn back to the Final Four.

Broome will have his work cut out for him in trying to crack minutes on the 76ers roster as a second round selection, but he earns himself a chance at the NBA and if he can develop some of his skills, will have the chance to be a longtime pro.
