Every week on the Tobias & Comer Coaches’ Corner, Mark and Lee will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what’s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.
You can catch all of it right here on WNSP.com or live during The Opening Kickoff.
This week, we caught up with Mobile Christian girl’s basketball coach Kenny Wright fresh off his team’s victory over Thomasville in the Class 3A South Regional final on Tuesday to reach the Final Four.
The win was marked by a historic performance from a historic performance from his center Hadley Kelly, who had a exceedingly rare triple-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and a mind-boggling — and AHSAA state-tournament record — 23 blocked shots.
It was a comeback effort that led to the 40-38 win after the Leopards trailed in the second half.
“As the first quarter went along our assistant coach said she has nine blocked shots and I was like ‘What?!’, and Thomasville kept trying her,” Wright said. “Hadley has been a great rim protector for us all season…we took it one possession at a time and the girls stayed focus and Hadley kept blocking those shots.”
