South Alabama Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short in the Road Finale Against Marshall

South Alabama gets behind early, and despite a late push, was never able to recover as they fall in the regular-season road finale to Marshall 84-80.

The Jaguars got in a hole in the first half as they were down by as many as 16. The Jags had a late surge where they cut the lead to one, but a late and-1 layup helped seal the win for the Marshall Thundering Herd.

Despite the loss, there were some positives to take away for the Jags as Stephen Williams scored an efficient 19 points and racked up 11 rebounds off the bench. Chaze Harris led the team in points with 28 and assists with 8, and Adam Olsen added 21 points.

The Jaguars dominated the paint as well as they scored 52 of their 80 points down low. They also won the rebound battle 37-29. The difference in the game were the 3-pointers as the Thundering Herd made 18 compared to South’s 5.

The Jags now sit in second place in the Sun Belt Conference standings behind Appalachian State, and will close out their regular season on a four-game home stretch. The Jags will be back in the Mitchell Center Thursday against Texas State.

The Jaguars will play the Troy Trojans this Saturday in a matchup between two of the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference.
