One of the reasons Drew Brees is among the most popular players in the NFL is because he seems just like one of us, except for the incredible talent part.<\/p>\n
Then comes this story out of San Diego that makes you realize that\u2019s not the case.<\/p>\n
The New Orleans Saints quarterback is suing jeweler Vahid Maradi in part because the ring Brees bought from Maradi in 2015 is worth only $3.75 million instead of the $8.18 million Brees paid for it. If you\u2019re curious, the ring is a 4.09 carat blue diamond.<\/p>\n
In all, Brees bought $15 million worth of earrings, watches and rings from Maradi. His lawsuit claims he recently had the pieces appraised for $9 million less than that.<\/p>\n
I have no problem with a multi-millionaire spending his money on anything he wants.<\/p>\n
But you lose the connection with 99 percent of your fans when you get mad and file a lawsuit because your ring — which is still just as pretty regardless of what the appraiser says — is worth only $3.75 million.<\/p>\n
My advice: Enjoy the high priced jewelry. Your rare talent enables you to purchase anything you want. But take responsibility if your outrageous purchase isn\u2019t appraised for what you had hoped. On behalf of the little guys who call themselves Drew Brees fans, Tighten Up.<\/p>\n
