Montgomery were playing, and Mary G. Montgomery was up with 10 seconds left in the third quarter,” said Thomas. “A Mary G. Montgomery player took a shot, and it bounced off the backboard, and found its way into Vincent Douglas’ hands, and he heaved it with a hand in his face and it dropped straight in. The guy acted like it was nothing. He casually walked over to the bench, and I asked him about it. I asked him about it, and he said, yeah, I practice that. It sparked a run going into the fourth quarter. He didn’t even look at the basket.”

This year, there were a lot of high school football players taking advantage of the early signing period, and Thomas shared his thoughts.

“It was a little down overall, but it’d hard to tell,” Thomas said. “All of the Power Five guys signed in December. There was still some intrigue. Some Sun Belt schools came in and got some good recruits. Locally, it felt diluted because you’re taking all the intrigue away. For all the kids that signed early, they were out of school. They didn’t get to celebrate with any of their friends or anything.”

By Scott McInnerney WNSP Reporter MOBILE, AL – A local basketball player sparked interest Thursday with a potential SportsCenter moment.
