The amount of success Auburn has enjoyed in the same state at the same time Alabama has been so dominant.<\/p>\n
Alabama is perhaps or even likely on its way to winning its fifth national championship in eight years. But over that same span Auburn has won a national championship, played for another and dominated two SEC Championship Games.<\/p>\n
Saban has never beaten Auburn three years in a row, although the Tide is a heavy favorite to do so Saturday in Tuscaloosa.<\/p>\n
Alabama still leads the all-time Iron Bowl series 44-35-1. But the record is tied over the last 18 years, 20 years, 22 years and 24 years. In fact, Auburn holds an 8-6 advantage over the last 14 Iron Bowls.<\/p>\n
And how about this stat: In the last 122 games, Saban is 6-3 against Auburn and 104-9 against everybody else.<\/p>\n
While that record against Auburn is likely to improve this week, there’s no doubting that Auburn has experienced more success than you would expect given the domination over college football of its chief rival.<\/p>\n
