Week four has come and gone on the Gulf Coast, and with it, high school football season is officially in full swing with the best time of year that we all wait for finally now here!<\/p>\n
Every week during the season, Pigskin Pete and his crew on the Friday night Green and Phillips Pigskin Scoreboard show select an athlete from one of the teams that we cover and name them the Bryant Bank Player of the Week for their outstanding performance and helping their team to get the victory.<\/p>\n
This week, the honor goes to Murphy Panthers running back Khamari Davis, who had three touchdowns in a Murphy 33-6 over Elberta which snapped a 24-game losing streak for the program. It was the first victory ever for head coach Sherman Williams during his two years with the program.<\/p>\n
“Victory is always the mission, and I just feel honored for these young men who put it on the line every day,” Williams said when talking about his team and Davis’ big night. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to lead these young men and grateful to them for laying it out on the line.”<\/p>\n
Williams revealed Davis has been battling through some injuries this season which has caused him to be a little bit limited, making the performance even sweeter.<\/p>\n
With some very tough games left on the schedule, Williams is confident this could be just the beginning.<\/p>\n
“We just have to keep putting in the work and more success will follow.”<\/p>\n
The Panthers host Gulf Shores this week as they try to get ready to face a gauntlet of a remaining schedule that includes Saraland, Spanish Fort and Theodore. While they will enjoy the victory, Murphy knows it’s time to get back to work.<\/p>\n
