{"id":1184514,"date":"2026-08-27T06:07:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:07:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wnsp.com\/wordpress\/?p=1184514"},"modified":"2026-08-27T06:07:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T12:07:17","slug":"tobias-and-comer-coaches-corner-jason-phillips-satsuma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wnsp.com\/wordpress\/tobias-and-comer-coaches-corner-jason-phillips-satsuma\/","title":{"rendered":"Tobias and Comer Coaches Corner: Jason Phillips, Satsuma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every week on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tobiascomerlaw.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tobias &amp; Comer<\/a>\u00a0Coaches\u2019 Corner, Mark, Lee and Michael will talk to a local area high school coach to get the scoop on what\u2019s going on with their team, how our local schools are faring on their respective pushes to bring Blue Maps back to the Gulf Coast, and everything in between.<\/p>\n<p>In this week&#8217;s edition, we caught up with first-year Satsuma Gators head coach Jason Phillips coming off his team&#8217;s huge week one victory in the rivalry game over Chickasaw by a score of 44-20. The Gators found a bunch of success under a new strategy of running the ball first for Phillips, and he said this is how the team plans to experience success this season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We feel like we have to run the football and play great defense on offense, if we can run the football we set ourselves up with a great chance to win in the fourth quarter,&#8221; Phillips said.<\/p>\n<p>The Gators will have another tune up game this week against R.C. Hatch before 4A Region 1 play begins next week against a very tough schedule. Starting with a home game against LeFlore, Satsuma then travels to B.C. Rain before hosting one of the best teams in the state in the Williamson Lions.<\/p>\n<p>Not since 2020 has the program made the playoffs, and Phillips is going to try to take steps towards making that happen. They will keep taking things week by week and trying to focus on the process of getting better rather than the bigger goal of making the postseason.
