The Auburn Tigers\u00a0are preparing to enter a new era this season led by\u00a0new head coach\u00a0Alex Golesh, and the question many asked when he first took the job is already being answered this offseason.<\/p>\n
In the SEC, your ability to recruit talent to your program is just as important \u2014 if not more so \u2014 than your actual ability to coach on Saturdays, and while Hugh Freeze did excel at recruiting, the development and game-day decisions obviously were not up to snuff.<\/p>\n
Golesh is going to have to prove what he can do once he gets talent in the building, but as far as getting that talent to come to The Plains, he\u2019s getting it done as well as anyone in the conference right now, as Auburn continues a great run on the recruiting trail.<\/p>\n
Locking down 24 commitments so far, the former South Florida head coach now has the Tigers in a top-10 class nationally and No. 5 in the SEC, and five of those commits happen to be top-10 players within the state of Alabama. With names like LB Isaac McNeil (Mobile), DL Donivan Moore (Bessemer), WR Deshawn Hall (Prattville), WR Cedrick Simmons (Selma), and S Preston Williams (Skipperville), Golesh is placing an emphasis on locking down the state.<\/p>\n
By the sounds of it, more players may be on the way in the month of July as Golesh continues to lay the groundwork for what his program will be, building and developing relationships with local prospects across the Southeast.<\/p>\n
Again, Golesh is going to have to show that his system actually works on Saturdays in the fall as an SEC head coach, and fans would love to see some serious improvement on offense at the very least during the 2026 season. But in terms of what can actually be evaluated so far, this program looks like it\u2019s in very good hands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
