UMS, Vigor join Power Poll
UMS-Wright and Vigor entered the poll at Nos. 23 and 21, respectively, after each team’s win last week. The Bulldogs beat W.S. Neal 37-0, and the Wolves took down Jackson 17-14.
This week, UMS plays at Thomasville, and Vigor goes to No. 12 St. Paul’s. The Saints dropped a spot despite beating Citronelle 35-14, and were the only local team to do so.
The Vigor-St.Paul’s game will be the site of WNSP’s High School Football Game of the Week on Friday. Opening Kickoff will be on location at St. Paul’s, and coverage will start at 6 with Pigskin Pete’s Pepsi Pregame Program, followed by the game at 7 and Pigskin Pete’s Postgame until midnight.
Following its 27-6 win over Foley, Spanish Fort climbed five spots to No. 17, the highest jump of any local team. The Toros, who remain the only Baldwin County team in the poll, host Saraland this Thursday night.
That game will be televised on ESPN2 as part of the 2016 GEICO ESPN High School Football Showcase, and will begin at 7 p.m. CT.
Davidson tied Spanish Fort’s leap, jumping from No. 10 to No. 6. In Coach Riley’s 100th win with the Warriors, they defeated Fairhope 31-7 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
This Friday, Davidson, whose only loss came to McGill, will host Jackson on Friday.
Blount can also claim that stat, and it climbed a spot after slamming LeFlore 57-18. The No. 1 team in 6A travels to Daphne this week.
Finally, McGill continues its residence at the top of the poll. The nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets beat Mary G. Montgomery 45-7 on the road, and they host Baker this week.
Mobile Christian sits just outside the poll this week. The Leopards are the only local team to receive votes, and their only loss came by forfeit.
Mobile Christian beat Hillcrest-Evergreen 31-3 last week, while this week it travels to Clarke County.
