The LSU Tigers

The Tigers are coming off the most impressive win of Ed Orgeron’s tenure as head coach. But maybe we shouldn’t have been surprised by the victory at No. 6 Auburn.

Since an embarrassing home loss to Troy last September, LSU is 9-2, with the only two losses being by 14 points to No. 1 and eventual national champion Alabama, and by 4 points to Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl.

Other than that, the Tigers have won on the road against a ranked Florida team, beaten a top-10 Auburn team, won at Ole Miss and Tennessee, and taken care of business at home. They also opened this season with an impressive whipping of top-10 Miami.

That’s four wins over ranked teams in the last calendar year.

The formula for the Tigers has been pretty simple. Excel on special teams. Follow the lead of the best defensive coordinator, Dave Aranda, and commit zero turnovers in the first three games of the season. That’s a recipe for success at any level of football.
