There’s no reason in the world why we should know the name Shalene Ernsberger. In fact, you probably don’t know her by her name. But if you’ve watched any college football highlights from the weekend you know her as the sister of the Western Michigan tight end.
Shalene, who ran on the field to congratulate and hug her brother while the game was still in progress, clearly needs to Tighten Up.
Here was the situation. Donnie Ernsberger caught a 14-yard pass in the first overtime to pull the Broncos within one point of Buffalo. That’s when Shalene, wearing a Western Michigan jersey with Ernsberger on the back and sister on the front, sprinted onto the field to congratulate her brother. It was telling that Donnie never even acknowledged her as tosses the ball to the official.
Her actions resulted in a 15-yard penalty on the extra point, which for her sake, was good.
When we last saw Shalene, she was retrieving her car keys and being escorted from the stadium.
Western Michigan went on to win 71-68 in seven overtimes. But even 139 points scored was overshadowed by an overzealous sister who clearly needs to Tighten Up.
