The rich continue to get richer in recruiting

This must be how non-Alabama football fans felt when Jarez Parks, one of the top 100 recruits in the country, committed to Alabama even though the Tide was only offering him a greyshirt opportunity.

Kentucky basketball’s version of this embarrassment of riches involves 6-foot-9 forward Kevin Knox from Tampa. The Wildcats already had the No. 1 recruiting class in the country based on the early signing period. Now Knox, the 10th-ranked player in the country, has committed to join the class.

That gives Kentucky 7 of the top 28 recruits in the country. By comparison, Alabama just signed the best class in school history. The Tide’s five signees comprise the fifth-ranked class in the country. Yet, Alabama has one 5-star recruit compared to six for Kentucky.

The point of the story is still: Don’t be fooled by team rankings in recruiting. Just because two teams are ranked in the top 10 in the recruiting rankings does not mean they are recruiting at the same level. Often times it’s not even close.
