Take your time, graphics guy

There was one decision for the college football selection committee this weekend. After ranking Clemson 1, Oklahoma 2 and Georgia 3, the only drama involved placing either Alabama or Ohio State in the final playoff slot.

That answer finally came Sunday at 11:31 a.m.

It could have been revealed earlier, except that host Rece Davis told us on seven occasions that the results had been given to ESPN but the graphics guy needed more time to load the graphic for the reveal.

Hey, graphics guy, how long does it take to type A-L-A-B-A-M-A into the graphic? Come on, this is a big moment, Tighten Up.

Of course, this was all a made-for-TV moment. Surely the delay had more to do with building suspense than the actual incompetence of the ESPN graphics department.

But that doesn’t change the fact that viewers of the show were left to wonder if the comments of the talking heads on the desk were being made after they knew the results or if they were also at the mercy of the slow graphics guy.

That certainly added to the drama, but it took away from the ultimate moment of truth.
