South Alabama senior pitcher Nailed It

Tyler Carr.

The South Alabama senior pitcher came within one strike of pitching the first 9-inning no-hitter in program history.

Friday at Texas State, Carr entered the ninth inning with a 10-0 lead and without having allowed a hit. After a walk and two outs Carr got two strikes on the next batter. But the next pitch resulted in a double to left field that not only broke up the no-hitter but the shutout as well.

Still, Carr’s strong performance earned him honors as the Sun Belt Conference pitcher of the week.

Carr, with a 7-2 record and 3.12 ERA, has proven to the the ace on a South Alabama team that is now squarely in line for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
