Power 25: Upset Friday causes shuffle

alpower25-10-17MOBILE, AL (WNSP) — Following a Friday full of upsets, the teams in the AL.com Power 25 have moved around.

Teams from Mobile and Baldwin County have traded places, joined the poll, fallen out of the poll, climbed and dropped spots.

No. 17 Spanish Fort climbed two spots after its 33-7 win over Satsuma on ESPN2.
No. 21 Vigor took the No. 17 spot after beating St. Paul’s 38-35.
No. 12 St. Paul fell to Vigor’s spot at No. 21.

The Toros travel to B. C. Rain, the Wolves go to Murphy, and the Saints visit Faith Academy.

That was as crazy as the dancing got this week, but Daphne joined the poll at No. 20 after beating No. 7 Blount 28-18 last week. Blount fell to No. 14 following the loss.

The Trojans travel to Robertsdale, and the Leopards host Gulf Shores. They are the only local team ranked in this poll not going on the road this week.

No. 23 UMS-Wright fell out of the poll after it lost to Thomasville 42-30. It travels to Monroe County this week.

For all the movement in this week’s poll, two teams have remained constant in their positions: No. 1 McGill-Toolen and No. 6 Davidson.

The two teams have established their dominance in Class 7A, and have only one loss between them—a triple-overtime matchup with each other. The Yellow Jackets have since given up a maximum of 12 points and won by at least 28 each of the last seven games, which includes last week’s 42-7 win over Baker.

The Warriors had a maximum of 21 points, and a margin of victory by at least 20—less impressive but similar stats. That ended with a 50-49 win over Jackson last Friday, but it did not impact their standings in the poll.

McGill travels to Theodore and Davidson goes to Murphy this Friday.

The only other local team involved in the poll is Mobile Christian. The Leopards are receiving votes after their 36-21 win over Clarke County, and they travel to Cottage Hill.
