Kirby Smart already paying dividends for Georgia

Kirby Smart has a long way to go to catch up with his former boss when it comes to success on the football field.

But if the University of Georgia was hoping for a Nick Saban clone when they hired Smart, they’re already starting to see results on the recruiting trail.

Take a look at the top players in the class of 2019, the players who just completed their sophomore seasons.

It’s still a long way to go before February 2019, but there is a trend developing. Of the top 34 players in the country only six have committed to a college. Georgia is the only school with more than one of those commitments.

Receiver Jadon Haselwood of Ellenwood, Georgia, committed to the Bulldogs this week, joining IMG Academy defensive end Nolan Smith as a Georgia commit.

Alabama, Florida, Miami and LSU each have one of those top commitments.

Nobody is saying Georgia is on the verge of a historic run of success on the field. But it is clear that the days of Georgia conceding great recruits — especially those inside the state of Georgia — is coming to a halt.
