John Felsher co-hosts the Outdoors Show with Alan White every Thursday from noon-1 p.m. A native of Louisiana and a lifelong outdoorsman, Felsher is a professional freelance writer and photographer with more than 1,800 articles in more than 100 magazines to his credit. Felsher began his writing career as a junior in high school when he became the outdoors editor for the Slidell, La. Daily Times in 1977. Leaving Slidell in 1980 to attend the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, La., he became the outdoors editor of the Lafayette Daily Advertiser. After graduating cum laude from USL in 1984, Felsher served for 12 years as a public affairs officer in the United States Air Force.
Honorably discharged as a captain in September 1996, Felsher returned to Louisiana. He worked for a year as the outdoors editor of the Hammond, La., Daily Star before taking a job in Lake Charles, La. with the American Press. Felsher worked as the outdoors editor for the American Press until Hurricane Rita destroyed his home in September 2005, forcing him to evacuate.
He currently writes a monthly column for Alabama Living magazine and a bi-monthly column for Gaff Life magazine. He regularly contributes to Great Days Outdoors, Coastal Angler, Outdoors Journal, ABA magazine, Bass Angler Magazine, Texas Fish and Game and many other publications.
