Four local high school teams in AHSAA semifinals

MOBILE, AL – Two boys’ and two girls’ high school basketball teams from Mobile have made it to the semifinals of their class’ playoff group.

McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and St. Luke’s Episcopal School are in the boys’ basketball semifinals, while McGill and LeFlore Magnet High School represent the area in girls’ basketball.

St. Luke’s will play against Tanner High School today at 4:30 p.m. for a chance to compete in the Class 2A State Championship. Along the way, St. Luke’s took down New Brockton 75-32, Geneva County 50-44, and Barbour County 60-58 in the playoffs.

McGill’s boy’s basketball team is scheduled to face Sparkman High School in the Class 7A semifinals on March 1 at 10:30 a.m. McGill had to beat Theodore 58-36, and Murphy 58-40 to make it this far.

In girl’s basketball, LeFlore is matched up against Hazel Green in the Class 6A semifinals on Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. LeFlore had to defeat Northview 51-49, Lanier 54-47, and Blount 63-40 on their way.

In the Class 7A semifinals, McGill’s girl’s basketball team will square off against Sparkman. The team beat Bryant 53-40, and Murphy 42-35 in the playoffs.

The Class 6A and 7A championship games will be played March 3, and the Class 2A championship game will be on March 2.
