Fields commitment another sign that Georgia is awakening

If you ask any educated college football fan what it takes to have a championship program they’ll likely give you three answers.

  1. You’ve got to have a great coach.
  2. You have to have a great quarterback.
  3. You have to recruit at a high level.

The jury is still out on second-year coach Kirby Smart, but the Georgia Bulldogs appear to be on the verge of something special.
If it weren’t already evident, the commitment of Justin Fields to Georgia Friday proved that the Bulldogs are going to recruit at a high level and that they’re going to have a championship-worthy quarterback for years to come.
Fields will follow Jake Fromm last year and Jacob Eason two years ago as 5-star quarterbacks on the Georgia roster.
The commitment also means that the No. 1 quarterback in the country this season will be signing with the same team as the country’s No. 1 running back, Zamir White.
It’s too early to crown Georgia the champion of anything at this point. After all, this is a team that lost at home to Vanderbilt and Tennessee and Georgia Tech last season.
But the commitment of Fields is another indication that the sleeping giant that is Georgia football appear to be awakening.
